Aunt Margaret cried all the time. I don’t remember ever seeing her without tears in her eyes. She would cry when she hadn’t seen us in a long time – “Oh, my girls, my girls, I’ve missed you so much,” or even when she saw us every day – “I’m so blessed to be with my girls, thank you Lord.” Of course she cried at the sappy Hallmark commercials (but doesn’t everybody?), but she also cried at the Claritin commercials – “Oh, what a shame that some unfortunate people have to suffer from those terrible allergies.” In church the music would move her to tears as would the speakers during the main meeting. One time, I was giving a talk in church, and I remember I didn’t feel like I was doing a good job until I looked into the congregation and I saw Aunt Margaret looking up at me with those big tears in her small eyes. Somehow, that was a comfort to me.
